The Cliffs and The Reserve Communities on Lake Keowee provide home or vacation home opportunities to a wide variety of people. Whether full or part-time residents, common attributes are a love of the outdoors, of golf, of lake-living, of casual club camaraderie, or of boating.
Because the climate in the Upstate of South Carolina is so moderate, yet still delivers four distinct seasons, it is often sought out as a retirement destination. A number of the full-time residents of these luxury golf and lake communities are retirees from the Northern States or from Canada. Others are enticed to settle full time in Upstate South Carolina in order to escape the summer heat of Florida, Georgia, Texas, or Louisiana. Other full-time residents of the lake communities include those with school-aged children. With Blue Ribbon schools near all the communities and both Furman and Clemson Universities within easy commutes, the families of college scholars are frequently attracted to the area. Work-from-home opportunities are increasingly feasible, and for those whose work schedules require travel, the private airports at Pickens and Greenville are just a short drive away. Both Atlanta and Charlotte International Airports lie within a few hours of any of The Cliffs at Lake Keowee communities or of the The Reserve at Lake Keowee.
Proximity to Greenville, Charlotte, and Atlanta is also an enticement for part-time residents. Weekend commutes are easy and uncomplicated by traffic, so the pull of the lake is a particular magnet for this portion of the population of the clubs. In addition to the larger waterfront homes available to purchase, several enclaves of smaller, “cottage-style” dwellings are frequently offered for sale or to be custom-built. At the Reserve at Lake Keowee, the Great Lawn Cottages or Orchard Cottages fit this profile.
At the Cliffs at Keowee Falls South, the charming Retreat homes, Community Concepts or Clubhouse Cottages fall into this category, while Equestrian, Marina and Clubhouse Cottages at The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards offer similar, smaller-home configurations. All of the above provide full access to club amenities and the opportunity for lake access and boat ownership. The possibility of rental income is an added benefit to cottage ownership, although many larger homes are also popular for vacation rentals.
Many part-time residents enjoy homes in a variety of climates, so that summers might be spent in Canada, winters in Florida and shoulder seasons here in the Upstate of South Carolina.
Another segment of the community population includes those who live within an easy commute of the clubs and wish to enjoy club privileges through lot ownership. Affordably priced lots are an excellent opportunity for club membership without the necessity of a second home.
