Grandfather Mountain New Year’s Sunrise Hike

Want to welcome the New Year in an unforgettable way?  Consider taking in the first sunrise of 2022 atop Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina!

This annual event allows you to rare opportunity to not only visit and hike within the Grandfather Mountain park outside normal hours, but also gives you the breathtaking view of a sunrise from the highest point in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Did we mention it includes complimentary coffee and bearclaws? (Of course, hopefully these tasty treats will be the only bearclaws you will encounter!)

To ring in 2022 at Grandfather Mountain, make sure to reserve your spot now! Only 100 spots are open and registration is required in advanced. The event costs $15 in addition to general admission to the park ($24 children, $35 adults). Although a bit of a drive for those who call Upstate South Carolina home, this adventure is well worth the trip and we suggest spending a full day at the park.  Not only for the stunning sunrise but the entire area is worth the experience. Surrounding Grandfather Mountain you will find many rare and endangered species within the 16 distinct natural communities. Take a hike among these habitats – there are easy hikes to more advanced. Which trails are open will depend on weather conditions. Shop for gifts at the gift shop! Inside the Nature Museum and Top Shop, there are gift shops providing artisan crafts, souvenirs, learning toys, home goods, clothing and more. Proceeds for anything bought go to the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation. You can even stop for a meal while you’re there and pick up soup and sandwiches to munch on while watching birds eat outside the museum. With everything the park has to offer, it’s a perfect getaway for active outdoorsman to children and everyone in between.
