From shopping to dining, this town is bursting with things to experience. One of the great things regarding this town is the location and natural surroundings. Western North Carolina has much to offer in this field!
One great treasure is the Western North Carolina Nature Center. Managed by the City of Asheville’s Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department, this center’s mission is to increase people’s appreciation and knowledge of the Southern Appalachian Mountain area.
Open daily, except for major holidays, The Western North Carolina Nature Center offers numerous exhibits on the 40+ acre location. There is an indoor exhibit featuring many reptiles – yes, that includes snakes but also houses some small mammals and various amphibians. At Otter Falls you can view, you guessed it – otters! Plus, the turtles like to make an appearance here as well.
How about seeing one of the world’s most endangered species? Here at WNC Nature Center, you can see the red wolf! After learning more of the animals and the area, take a short walk about the nature trail, which follows part of the Swannanoa River.
