Ski Resorts of Western North Carolina

This past weekend’s snow may have you itching for a chance to hit the slopes! Many enjoyed the beauty of the snowy weather from inside but for those who enjoy venturing out, consider some of the various ski slopes and resorts in and around the Asheville, North Carolina area!

Yes, our winters are typically mild comparatively yet western North Carolina still offers many options to enjoy the snowy sports.
One favorite spot for skiing in North Carolina is the town of Beech Mountain, the highest town in Eastern America at 5,506 feet! This winter season marks their 50th anniversary so come and enjoy all the skiing, ice skating, sledding, and snowboarding your heart desires. With over 90 acres of ski terrain and 15 slopes plus trails, you will be in for a treat. At the top of the slopes, rest and enjoy not only the panoramic view but refresh with drinks from the Skybar! There are various opportunities for accommodations, able to fit your group no matter how many or how few. For more information on this wonderful town in the Blue Ridge Mountains, click here.

In the vicinity of Maggie Valley, you can visit the Cataloochee Ski Area, which is located high in the Great Smokey Mountains. Whether you are interested in learning to ski or are a pro, this is a great place to explore! They also have “Tube World”, and slope made just for riding their specially designed tubes – a great option to enjoy the snow if you are not yet ready to don the skis or snowboard.

Similar options await in Jackson County at the Sapphire Valley Resort. With the learning center and a tubing area this is a great choice for families and typically, shorter wait lines for those anxious to hit the slopes. Don’t forget the lodge to relax by the fireplace or enjoy a hot meal.

If headed to the Mars Hill area, you can ski at Wolf Ridge. Just off of I-26, the Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is an easy drive but still offers the great mountain vistas with the slopes for any ski or snowboard enthusiast. Between the 15 ski runs (and 4 ski lifts) you will have lots to choose from to enjoy!
North Carolina offers the range of opportunities – from beginner to expert, tubbing to skiing, shopping to dining – at the various ski resorts and towns.
