History on Display through the Oconee Heritage Center

Part of the Cliffs Communities, The Cliffs at Keowee Falls, are in Oconee County. This county is rich in history and the Oconee Heritage Center’s mission is to preserve and promote this heritage. The center has a museum in Walhalla to showcase much of this history.
The Oconee Heritage Center museum highlights the historical and cultural heritage of the area. Visitors are able to explore and learn of the Native Americans, railroads, textile mills, and so much more. Being self-guided, you are able to come and take your time through the numerous exhibits. How about taking a walk through a farmer’s house of the Depression era? This is just one example of the great displays available.
The Oconee Heritage Center museum is free of charge but donations are greatly appreciated. Click here to check the hours and please note, it is closed Sundays and Mondays.
If you have even more time to explore in Oconee County, there is also the General Store Museum in Westminster! Here you can see a wide collection of original pieces and objects from the England’s General Merchandise store. This branch museum is only open on Fridays and Saturdays but is worth the stop!
