DuPont Forest Festival

DuPont State Recreational Forest, known for its multiple waterfalls and trails near Asheville, NC, is celebrating the beauty of the park & all public lands on National Public Lands Day.  On Saturday, September 25th, the Park will hold a family-friendly festival to build a love of nature in all young-at-heart.

Currently, there are over 30 events planned to encourage outdoor exploration of the area, such as hands-on demonstrations, guided tours, and educational lectures.  The park itself is widely known in the area for its vast system of trails, over 80 miles in fact, of which take you deep into the Appalachians with views of waterfalls and nearby mountain ranges. You can hike or take your bike as many of the trails allow for multiple uses. Many come to enjoy the three waterfalls – High Falls (pictured below), Bridal Veil Falls, and Grassy Creek Falls, all of which can easily be reached by the trail system. Have a horse? You can ride on many of the trails as well! Just make sure to park horse trailers at Guion Farm, Lake Imaging Access area on Staton Road, or the Sky Valley Road access points.

All streams in DuPont State Recreational Forest, along with their lakes, are public fishing spots. Streams and portions of the Little River are stocked with wild trout and if hunting is your passion, you can use the 10,000 acres of protected land during specific hunting seasons. Deer, turkey, and small game can be hunted within their respective hunting seasons and with permits.

Please note, while this festival is to highlight Dupont, the festival will be held at the Guion Farm at 3045 Sky Valley Road, Hendersonville, NC 28739, a favorite spot for cyclists, hikers, and equestrians. Feel free to pack a picnic meal although there will be food vendors on site as well.  Did we forget to mention that admission is free?! Sounds like a fantastic weekend outing to us!

This forest is located between Hendersonville and Brevard; a pleasant and scenic 1-hour drive from Upstate South Carolina. For more information about this outdoor haven, such as hours of operation, parking, etc, please click here.
