Duke Energy’s World of Energy

Duke Energy's World of Energy Lake Keowee

Located at the Oconee Nuclear Station in Seneca, SC, a short drive from the Cliffs Communities, Duke Energy’s World of Energy provides a fun and interactive environment for the whole family. With its many interactive activities and educational models, the World of Energy is an exciting place to learn about electricity.

Opened in 1969, the World of Energy provided a balcony for visitors to observe the construction of the power plant and its three nuclear reactors. Since then, many attractions have been added including the Story of Energy, which is a self-guided tour within the education center that allows visitors to learn how energy is produced on an interactive and fun level. They also have a beautiful butterfly garden with native flowering plants that attract all types of native butterflies. After the butterfly garden, take a trip to the wildlife habitat to observe natural fish and other creatures in their natural habitat.

Finish your visit with a picnic lunch on the shores of pristine Lake Keowee at one of their many picnic shelters or peninsula with unspoiled views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. What makes it even better is that the World of Energy can be access by boat on Lake Keowee with slips available to visitors on the property itself! And did I mention that it’s FREE!
