Soapstone Church’s Fish Fry!

Known as the oldest African-American church in the Upstate of South Carolina, Soapstone Baptist Church in Pickens was established and built in the 1860’s.  Although this church’s location affords a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the church is named for the abundance of soapstone found in the area.

Not only is this congregation known for their history and outreach to the community but also for their Fish Fry held every third Saturday!  Back from taking a break due to the covid pandemic, this mouth-watering meal is a monthly fundraiser for the historic church and maintenance of the grounds such as the school house and slave cemetery. Although the menu does vary from month to month, you can expect to enjoy not only flavorsome fish but also delectable vegetable sides plus desserts! The fish fry runs from 11:30 am to 5pm and the cost per plate is $14. There is something for everyone at every meal.

The Fish Fry runs all year, except for during the months of November and December.
