Scenic Highway 11 – More Than You Know!

Ready for a summer road trip? How about a drive down scenic Highway 11?
Many of the residents of The Reserve at Lake Keowee and The Cliffs Communities are familiar with a stretch of road known as Highway 11. What one may not know is the history and the attractions!
Extending from I-85 near the North Carolina border to I-85 at the Georgia state line is Highway 11. This 112-mile road was one the route used by the Cherokees and the English and French fur traders. Today, it allows the travelers a scenic alternative to driving the Interstate. The current road was once part of the “Cherokee Path” or “Keowee Path” that originally stretched from Tennessee to Charleston, South Carolina. Many of the names of places and rivers along Highway 11 display the Cherokee heritage – such as Seneca, Toxaway, Jocassee, Eastatoee.
As you explore South Carolina’s Highway 11, keep a look out for the many places to stop and eat or even, during the right season, pick up some local produce!
